This Friday brings a handful of musical treats to Drift bar in Palmerston road for club night Redemption. Headliners Where’s Huey, Specimen A, Fotza and Redemption residents The Random Scarves and J Tek. Proper Serious finds what all the fuss is about with Where’s Huey…

Who the hell is Huey? And where is he?
Huey is an illusive creature, kinda like the Yeti but with more finesse and if we knew where he was we’d be called Here’s Huey?

Upon checking out your bio on your website…is Danni Minogue really your idol? Because I love ‘All I Wanna Do’…
Yes, one of the greatest artists of all time, comparable to Nina Simone but with more depth of vision.

For those who don’t know…what influences make up the sound of Where’s Huey?
A staple of Hip and Hop & Dance, which you’d expect from a Rapper and Dance producer, but then every other genre gets a look in, we’re trying to be as open and as inclusive with our music as possible, Phil’s handy with a piano and I like a croon or two so don’t be surprised if we get a bit Sinatra at some point in the future.

How did you two link up to collaborate? (Bobby Whiskers and Phil from Specimen A make up Where’s Huey)…
Match.com, I was desperately seeking a slim smoking hot producer with a penchant for big beats, Phil was just desperately seeking. On our first date Phil was easily seduced by my rotund charm and magnetic lyrical flamboyance.

You guys will be playing at Drift in Portsmouth on the 11th June, what can we expect from your performance?
A white Tesco Value version of Dizzee Rascal with a one man Pendulum.

Andrea Britton features on quite a few of your tracks, what made that working relationship come about?
Bobby, previously worked with her on the Slovo album “Todo Cambia” with Dave Randall from Faithless. She has such a powerful singing voice, so distinctly English, which fits us perfectly, plus she has very hot long legs!!

What influences your lyrics?
Love and fear.

Is an album in the process of happening?
We already have over an albums worth of material; we’re just trying to get the plane of the ground before we crash It.

The logo (designed by Paul Jones) is pretty neat, but why does the creature have his balls hanging out? And what is it, exactly?
First of all creatures don’t wear pants, secondly, what your looking at his willy for anyway. Huey is an unambiguous beast, some say ram others say trilogy, we’re still trying to work it out ourselves.

Why should people download your free mixtape? (‘Pug Life’ and ‘Bobby’ is a percy ingle btw.)
It’s free but then again so is the Metro so don’t listen to us. (are you saying there is a person called pug life who works in Percy Ingle?)

What other venues will you be performing at this year?
Glastonbury, Madison Square Gardens, Wembley supporting Muse, Princess Diana Memorial Concert and the Warwick Corn Exchange on Tuesday night just before Jim Davison.

What’s the last thing you twittered today?
Studio session ended for today, totally knackered, loads done with much more to get on with… to the future with love.

And how would you like Where’s Huey to be perceived?
Not as a joke obviously.
